Treasured Memories

“Truly, I say to you, unless you become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3 – ESV)

Tuesday Treasure

“Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, ‘Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it.  It is the Lord who goes before you.  He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed.'” (Deuteronomy 31:7-8)

Hidden Treasure

The book of Numbers isn’t one that many of us are itching to read.  Much of it is laborious as it goes through many of the laws and the census of Israel.  But, there are some memorable passages throughout this great book.  And here’s one that I imagine many of you knew the song before you knew where it came from.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”  (Numbers 6:24-26; ESV)

Tuesday Treasure

Today’s treasure is found in Psalm 27.  Below you will read just a portion of this encouraging Psalm from David (verses 1, 3 & 14).  Be sure to read the whole thing for yourself – it’s a great passage of Scripture!

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I be fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid? . . . .

Though an army encamp against me,

my heart shall not fear;

though war rise against me,

yet I will be confident. . . . .

Wait for the Lord;

be strong and let your heart take courage;

Wait for the Lord!

Real Fact #17

A hummingbird weighs less than a penny.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet our heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?” – Matthew 6:25-26 (ESV)

Treasure in Song

While helping out a couple different times at the Rolling Hills Bible Camp this summer, I learned a new song.  And, what a song it was!!  It was originally written by Stuart Townend.  I know many of you may not know this song, but you don’t have to know the music to be able to appreciate the message of the lyrics.  Read carefully below:

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Another Sermon Poll

We only have two more Sundays in which we will conclude our series on “Hymns of Faith.”  Which song would you be most interested in taking a deeper look into?

Tuesday Treasure

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” – James 1:2-4

Treasure in Song

Today, we’re going to look at one of the favorite songs of Mrs. Vina Dickerson.  Vina is one of our senior saints at Holly Hill, and has been attending for a number of years.  When I asked her what she might consider her favorite song, she struggled to come up with just one (as I imagine many of us would!).  But, the first song that came to mind for her was “Love Lifted Me.”  I told her that would be a great one.  So, here are the words to that familiar song – read them as if for the first time.

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,

Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;

But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry,

From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

All my hear to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll cling,

In his blessed presence live, ever His praises sing.

Love so mighty and so true merits my soul’s best songs;

Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs.

Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves;

He will lift you by His love out of the angry waves.

He’s the Master of the sea, billows His will obey;

He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.

Love lifted me!

Love lifted me!

When nothing else could help,

Love lifted me!
